Love the show but i do think it was more relevant to the Bush era... The writers could have moved with the times and put the emphasis on the CIA being on the back foot, with Stan and the other agents either doing a really bad job of pretending to be more liberal, or backlashing against a liberal government by being more conservative and fascist than ever.

Either way i think they've let themselves down by not acknowledging last year's election on the show at all. I suppose the new situation was hinted at in 'Phantom of the Telethon', but overall the writers seem to have rather just moved away from politics pretty much completely...

It's a good thing that they've moved away from politics. I think the creators realized that they don't want to push away their loyal following like they did with Family Guy. Nobody *honestly* cares whether they are liberal or conservative. They have a healthy mixture of both on the show, and don't need to drag their personal views into a show made for the enjoyment of everyone.
However, I'm sure if you really are interested in acknowledgment of Obama's presence in the legislative body, Family Guy is the way to go. As for American Dad, they can keep it the direction it is going.
